Tip of the week

Confirm your tradesmen in advance!

Planning, Communications

You have your Self-Build project scheduled, planning permission has been granted, and you are ready for action.
Our new Tip of the Week is that you make sure you confirm each of your suppliers and tradesmen at least two weeks in advance. Our advice is not to assume that the current economic slowdown means that suppliers will be queuing up for you. The rough truth is that many have gone out of business or are doing something else to earn a living. That means that the supply base has significantly reduced as demand has dropped away.
That means that you need to continue to contact your suppliers on a regular basis to ensure that they are on schedule and will be available per your project plan. Our mantra at ManageMyBuild is to Communicate, Communicate, Communicate! Keeping in touch with your suppliers and tradesmen will prove to be one of the most important aspects of your project management methodology. It builds relationships, gives you a reason to make contact with your suppliers between the time you select your supplier and the services are provided, and provides an opportunity for both sides to discuss issues before they become major problems.
